Being sedentary, remaining impassive, always doing the same things: there are no worse killers for our mental health. For this reason, a correct mindset and an improvement in cognitive performance depend on how active we can be. It is not just about physical activity, but about being active in general. Let's see how the mechanisms that make us functional can boost our mental health.
Mental health means a state of emotional and psychological well-being where an individual can exercise their function and skills within society, respond to daily needs, establish satisfying and mature relationships with others, constructively participate in changes in the environment, and adapt to external conditions and internal conflicts.
All this translates into active life, made up of sports, social relationships, travel, and everything that makes us active.
Here we are at the point of explaining how to be more active in boosting your mental health.
So, let’s start with the essential activity: sport.
Playing sports is very important to relieve accumulated stress, relieve tension, feel better physically and mentally, and bring our minds to be just as active. If you've never played sports, take the first step. Somewhere you must start.
You can start walking. Getting more active doesn't mean you have to jump into half marathon training or lift heavy weights on the bench press at the gym. But you can start, for example, with a walk. Start walking for 15-20 minutes a day in a place where you feel comfortable. Walk at a pace that suits you, fast enough to sweat a little before you go home. Regular walks will prepare you for more intense activities. The word graduality also applies to the gym: start with small sessions, with little weights, and always go slowly, increasing time and intensity. Setting goals and pushing the limits will force you to be more motivated in sports and other areas of life. Your mental health will thank you.
It is easy to feel exhausted by the thousands of commitments we have every day. Sometimes we lack that dose of joy that fills emotional gaps and helps us be more energetic even when we can't keep our eyes open. But how can we be more active and improve our mental health at the same time? Watching television for hours on end is certainly not the answer.
What if you went for a walk in the park instead? If you played with your children or organized your holidays in advance?
The possibilities are endless: you can stay at home or go out, alone or with company ... The important thing is that you have fun and that you are happy! It will be good for both the body and the mind.
An active life also refers to relationships. Cultivating healthy relationships made up of positive, proactive people with ambitious health goals and goals can help us be more active, feel mentally satisfied, and even more motivated.
Keep away negative people who do not align with you and don't improve you. Instead, always surround yourself with what and who is best for you.
