Below we will show you 10 handy tips to optimize your shopping and avoid continuing to waste food. Let's begin! Smart shopping list. In addition to respecting the environment more, optimizing waste will allow you to save significantly on your wallet.
Before going to the supermarket, it is better to take a careful look at the fridge and the cupboard and draw up the list of an intelligent shopping list, organized for the week and which, therefore, avoids waste (of money and food).
Pay close attention to the words because the words "to be consumed preferably by" do not mean that when the indicated day arrives, you must hurry to throw away the package and contents: instead, remember that that food will gradually begin to lose its organoleptic properties (taste, aroma, etc.).
Taking care of the fridge periodically is another crucial piece of advice not to waste and not spoil the food. It is necessary to clean and check the seals and shelves, to clean them properly and to keep the food to see them more easily.
Just like in supermarkets, it is recommended to order the food on the shelves according to the expiration date. Those products that have a short shelf life are best placed in front. This little trick will help you not to find last year's purchases at the bottom of the pantry (but also on the refrigerator).
Even at the table, do not be overcome by greed. The dish should be left over in a pan or pot and not on the plate: in this way, it will be easier (and hygienic) to reheat it later. For example, the lunch break in the office the next day could be the right occasion.
Leftovers can be reused and reinvented; that's another good news. So get creative by reusing them in new recipes! On the internet, you will find many recipes to prepare delicious dishes, even for leftovers.
If you have small quantities of a product, let it become the ingredient for a more complex recipe: if vegetables are not enough for the side dishes, they can become the filling of a rustic cake or perhaps the dressing of dry pasta.
If you find that you have something at home that you will never eat, even under torture, it is better to give it to friends, relatives, neighbours, or people who need it.
Please don't throw away overripe or bruised food; it can be used to make desserts, smoothies, or soups.
Even at the restaurant, you can avoid wasting by asking for the doggy bag and taking home what is left over, especially if you have puppies waiting for you at home!
Thanks to these tips, we are sure that you will have the opportunity to take care of the environment, avoid your refrigerator overflowing with stuff that you will not eat, and above all, reduce food waste.
